Millions of people right now are looking at the New Year coming up and are wanting to get an edge in regards to eating right. One option that they are looking into is that of celery. Why celery? Well, people believe the notion that this is a vegetable that has a negative calorie count. What does that mean? Well, it basically means that you are going to burn more calories eating the vegetable than the calories found within a piece. That’s right, when you eat this, you very well could be burning more calories! Sounds great right? Well, there’s more to it than you may understand, and it’s going to make you a bit wary of going with a negative calorie idea.
How Many Calories Are In Celery
Here’s the thing, celery does have calories. In fact, a large stalk could have around 10 calories. Most people don’t eat it straight up, however. They add peanut butter. That right there is going to raise the calories to all new levels. Aside from that, you’ll find that this is not very filling, so people use ranch and other elements to try and help with the overall taste and filling quality. But let’s say that you didn’t go that route at all, and you were just chewing on celery left and right, would you then lose calories by eating it? No. Chewing only accounts for about 2 calories burned, which means that you will still ingest around 8 calories per stalk.
Celery Is Bad?
No. People will no doubt think that this is a hit piece against celery, when in reality it is not. This is not to say that you shouldn’t eat celery, but don’t eat it assuming that you are burning more calories eating it than if you were not to do so. There’s still balance that needs to occur in your body, so this is not going to save you from weight gain.
